Magic vulva paintings

What if God reflected the lived experience in a female body? What if we recognised the incredible ability to bring new life into the world? What if we focused on joy, pleasure and creativity as a driving force and an end in itself? What if the feminine was worshipped? Why live in an unhappy world when we can live in a magical one?

The magic vulvas are votives, referencing Sile na Gigs, Great Mother imagery and contemporary spiritual feminism. They are intended to create and increase magic, joy and pleasure.

I create work in layers to build up surfaces that are rich and varied, with layers of iridescent paint, collaged tissue paper and glitter that gives them a sense of life and means they change with the light and where we view them from.
