I am interested in caves both real and metaphorical and their historical and archetypal meaning for humankind.
There is something both primal and primeval about caves, our earliest homes, burial places and where our oldest art has survived. They have a deep resonance within the human psyche. As well as their very functionality, they also symbolise our connection to the earth, death and rebirth and the sacred feminine, the internal gaze and the seeding of creativity. They are the well from which ideas spring and the place where remains gather. I am interested in the caves themselves and the things within them, especially the dichotomy between made and found. This relates equally to art and artefact.
The following images show some of the pieces I have been making to explore this theme, Looking at the cave, what is within it and what is around it.
