Archaelogical cactus pots...

Drawing on ideas from the sacred desert, shamanism, sand, stone hallucinogenic cacti rituals and ancient meso-american culture, these pots were a response to a brief to create an artist's pot for a wall of cacti for London Design week 2017.

They are made from crank, black and dark brown clay, fired to stoneware temperatures. They have all been given strange rims, scored, incised, roughened and smoothed, painted and daubed with slips and clay, and finished with gold, platinum and mother of pearl lustres. The details follow the time and weather worn qualities of desert artefacts, growth patterns of the cacti themselves and the hidden detail of ritualistic magic.
