Transmutation

Transmutation

Like most artists I think, I am always looking, soaking up what I see. I only realised recently how many of these fascinations seep through and somehow transmute into what I make, even without intention. When I look at my plates, for example, I see things I have pored over all my life, as well as current conscious obsessions.

Neolithic tools, stones, how the light varies when it hits a wall, cracks in things, roads, shadows.

Then there are the thoughts, systems and beliefs that are also fermenting in there.

Multiples, shamanism, animism, zen, wabisabi, meditation, mythology, layering, social insects.

They seem to link together in my mind, creating their own sets of patterns and relationships that I try to express visually.
